'RESONANT FUTURES' - The debut album by UK composer, multi-instrumentalist and artist, Barry Cox, released under the name ‘The Imaginaries’.

A gentle, atmospheric and sometimes improvisational journey through ambient-folk-minimalist soundscapes using accordion, piano, low whistle, acoustic guitar and hammer dulcimer. Accompanied by Jake Cardigan on cello and Amy Cardigan on violin and with John Lewis on flute.

About the artists:

As a composer and as a musician, improvisation and creative expression have been predominant driving forces behind Barry Cox’s musical inspiration and are integral to the way he explores and creates music - taking on the challenge of learning a diverse array of instruments being part of this process, coupled with his interest in a wide range of musical styles from around the world, both ancient and modern. He has been attempting to play drums, piano, accordion, low whistle and acoustic guitar (amongst other instruments) for over 35 years.

After studying Fine Art & Music Production at Cumbria University, he began focusing on composing and recording at his home studio, east of Carlisle. ‘Resonant Futures’ is the first in a series of albums, representing the culmination of this work.

Cumbrian violinist Amy Cardigan has been a member of the 1st violin section of the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra since 2008. Alongside her position in BBCSSO, she teaches violin at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and is also a busy freelancer, playing with various other UK orchestras & projects. She has played alongside various artists including John Grant, Ben Folds, Mike Skinner, Kaiser Chiefs, Ms Dynamite and Eddie Reader.

Jake Cardigan currently holds the principal cello chair in the West Lakeland Orchestra, as well as playing with The Solway Sinfonia and other local classical ensembles. Smaller ensembles he has enjoyed playing with include the dynamic Étoile String Quartet and the folk-tinged-indie-pop trio Unos Dabs (once supported James Kerr & Nancy Fagan).

John Lewis is a woodwind musician with 40 years’ experience of playing, recording and teaching within the Merseyside area.
